We are doing this study in cooperation with the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC).  The purpose of this study is to look at the immune system response to the BK virus (BKV).   The BKV is a virus which infects 90 percent of the people, but does not have any symptoms.  This virus can be re-activated in people whose immune systems need to be controlled, as in kidney transplant patients, and cause damage to their transplanted kidneys.  We hope to use the knowledge gained from this study to create better treatments for those patients whose kidneys are harmed by BKV.

We plan to enroll about 35 patients at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
